About Me
Originally from Herefordshire, I first discovered interest in Geology
at Hereford Sixth Form College.
Embodying a 'work hard, play hard' mentality, I graduated from
The University of Liverpool with a first-class BSc in Geology (2016-19).

At Liverpool, I fulfilled a year in the Officer Training Corps (OTC), took part in a sponsored climb up Mt. Kilimanjaro,
and was a committee member for the Herdman Society (geoscience).
My dissertation focused on the relationship between structural geology and sedimentology
at Lac d'Émosson, Switzerland, and involved a 5-week mapping project in the Swiss Alps.

With a drive towards the energy industry, I went on to study MSc Integrated Petroleum Geoscience
at the University of Aberdeen (2019-20), and graduated with a distinction.

My project focused on hydrocarbon exploration in the UK Onshore Palaeozoic,
and was adapted to a winning article piece for the GEO ExPro student competition.

After graduating, I spent a month as a part-time intern for 1st Subsurface (TROVE Oil & Gas),
and a further month conducting virtual research on a modern carbonate reef (Kubbar).

With experience in the OTC at Liverpool and Aberdeen,
I recently transferred to the Royal Engineers as an army reservist.

I recently began a PhD journey in Sedimentology at the University of Aberdeen in 2021.
The project is industry-funded (NAM, Netherlands), and involves a re-appraisal of the
Dutch Rotliegend Group, Southern North Sea.

Geology has come hand-in-hand with a love for nature, the outdoors, and a desire to travel.
Fieldwork has taken me to Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Switzerland, Almeria, and the Spanish Pyrenees.
As my PhD progresses, I look forward to visiting the Western USA and other geo-sites around the country.

The aim of this blog site is to keep a track record of my aspired career in geology,
and present some interesting ideas about our Earth.
